We don't Google much, but we do a lot of Dyzeling!
‘Nice and fresh, every day’
At Kruidenier Foodservices the term “fresh” is not used lightly. We store all of our fresh products in our own refrigeration or deepfreeze units to guarantee freshness all the way to your kitchen. We monitor all of our cold stores 24/7 in order to be sure that crispy lettuces, cold-sensitive bananas or quickly perishable products such as fish, game and poultry are optimally refrigerated. If the temperature unexpectedly departs from the set level for any reason an alert is sounded and we intervene straight away.
The leading Dutch technology company Dyzle of Almere has been our partner in this area for many years.“Dyzle’s solutions not only monitor our refrigeration and deepfreeze units, but our cold storage trucks as well. That makes it possible for us to monitor the entire refrigeration chain”, explains Kris van Veen, facilities manager of Kruidenier Foodservices. “A unique aspect is the fact that this monitoring is carried out by a single company, whichensures that all of the systems are precisely dovetailed.”
The many refrigeration and deepfreeze units and all of the cold storage trucks are fitted with Dyzle’s remote sensors: the Y-Tags. These monitor the entire room, but also the core temperature of the products themselves. The temperature readings, but also the precise location of the cold storage truck, are transmitted via remote GPRS communication to a central point – the online personal dashboard – where they are all registered once again. “This way of monitoring the temperature has many advantages for the customer. The customer is supplied with a perfectly fresh product, and we have produced clear measurement results. That means that the customer can see whether the temperature of, say, dairy products has fallen under 7 degrees during storage at our premises or during transport. We also know the time of delivery. All of our distribution centres have been certified for HACCP and NEN ISO 9001:2008 since 1999, and NEN ISO 14001, the environmental management system, was recently added.” The Dyzle system provides perfect substantiation when it comes to the quality assurance that is so important to certification.
Energy savings
A safe and fresh product at your business location results from the monitoring of the refrigeration chain. But for Kruidenier there is yet another big advantage to monitoring our refrigeration and deepfreeze units. “We also keep a close eye on the energy consumption of all of our cold stores. We can see from the consumption, which is also shown in the personal dashboard, whether the unit is working optimally”, continues Kris van Veen. “Is the evaporator still working correctly? Is a refrigeration motor still precisely as it should be?”
Kruidenier pays close attention to energy consumption. For many years we have been looking to achieve a good balance between people, planet and profit: together we work on minimising our ecological footprint, that’s what it’s all about. “We keep our energy consumption, environmental burden and CO2 emission to an absolute minimum. Dyzle’s effective measurement system helps us with that”, says Kris. “Not only do we reduce the burden on the environment, we also achieve energy savings and reduce our overhead.
Lean and Green
In May of last year the Kruidenier Group was rewarded for its efforts with the Lean and Green Award 2010. This award is a component of the Sustainable Logistics programme. The programme supports 250 leading companies in the area of sustainable goods logistics. Connekt, the independent driving force behind the Sustainable Logistics programme, was impressed by Kruidenier’s performance and results between 2007 and 2010 and its efforts to achieve a CO2 reduction of at least 20 per cent in 2012.
How as this done? By improving the logistics streams, improving the driving behaviour of the drivers and by optimising the temperature control in the cold storage trucks. The close partnership of many years’ standing between Kruidenier and the innovative Dyzle not only yields an excellent measurement and registration system and satisfied customers. It also helps Kruidenier in its efforts to come up with sustainable solutions.
